|How many characters do you see represented here?: 1, 3, or 5.|
Characters are the single most important aspect of writing for me. I write characters without regard for plot (Step away from the panic button; such audacity will not go unexplained.). What I mean by that, is that I would write them in the simple act of sitting at a table sipping tea and chatting idly (and have done so frequently) because the experience is real, and pleasant/emotional/tense/terrifying/comfortable/joyous/depressing/alarming/what have you. It makes no difference to me what the experience is, because the experience is raw, organic, and can lead to anything. That said, life isn't all about tea parties. Life is about life, and that's why I write; so that these characters can share their lives.
In my previous blogging attempts, I was led to believe (by no one specific) that it should be about craft or marketing, or something...sociably, acceptably writer-oriented. I tried to talk about my opinions on the craft and the field. It was over in rather short order, that relationship.
I explored marketing next, which entailed a lot of free content and links. I'm fairly certain some people were reading regularly and I had received emails stating that some appreciated the excerpts, quotes, samples, etc. That was not so bad, all in all. Still, somehow it became exclusive, in that I had made myself feel that I could do nothing other than share snippets. I had unintentionally severed my most obvious outlet for doing what I actually do; talk about characters. Since the age of eleven, it's been nothing but talk of these entities. The general warning among those who know me tends to be 'don't get her started about characters'. It's time to start circulating that reputation in my personal internet space as well.
So, fair warning: If you come here, you've officially gotten me started about characters. Expect to hear about them, all the time.
This is about more than writing. This is about passion, about emotional/spiritual/mental balance. This is about me and my divinisphere. If you want in, you're welcome (I travel with all kinds). If you don't, no worries. All travelers aren't headed in the same direction.
I don't say this to stifle anyone. If you're a writer, a reader, or both and have a question about what I write, why I write, how I write, publishing, etc...feel free to ask. It's just not likely that I'll start the topic because...characters.
